SilverStone RM22-312 2U Rackmount Server Chassis

SilverStone RM22-312 is a 2U rackmount chassis for large NAS and SAN systems. Supports E-ATX and SSI-EEB boards with 12 x 3.5" hot-swap bays and triple Mini-SAS HD connectivity. Pre-installed cooling and support for optional sliding rails for data centre integration.

Who it suits

• For large NAS builds, 12 × 3.5" hot-swap bays provide substantial storage capacity, while the Mini-SAS HD SFF-8643 backplane supports SGPIO.
• Server integrators scaling up get 12-bay capacity in standard 19" racks with three 80mm PWM fans for consistent cooling.
• Data center teams get triple Mini-SAS HD support (3 x SFF-8643) with 7 x low-profile PCIe slots for multi-controller configurations.
• Not ideal for conventional desktop setups or systems requiring full-height expansion cards. The RM22-312 is designed for rackmount storage and server configurations.

Before you buy

• The chassis supports SSI-EEB, SSI-CEB, E-ATX, ATX, Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX motherboards. Check motherboard dimensions and component clearance before purchasing.
• The power supply is sold separately. A compatible 2U single or 2U redundant PSU is required. Verify its mounting-hole alignment with the RM22-312 rear panel.
• CPU cooler height is limited to 68mm. Most full-size tower coolers will not fit, so confirm the cooler's dimensions before purchasing.

What is the difference between the RM22-308 and RM22-312?

The RM22-308 has eight hot-swap drive bays and two Mini-SAS HD SFF-8643 backplane connectors, while the RM22-312 has twelve bays and three connectors. The RM22-308 provides one USB 2.0 and one USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A port, whereas the RM22-312 provides two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports. Both are 2U chassis with 660mm depth, support the same motherboard form factors and offer seven low-profile expansion slots.

Can I use SAS or SATA drives in all 12 bays?

Yes. All 12 hot-swap bays support compatible 3.5" SAS and SATA drives. For 24/7 server use, enterprise or NAS-rated drives are recommended. SAS drives require a compatible SAS controller, while SATA drives can use compatible SAS/SATA controllers. Check drive and controller compatibility before purchasing.

Do I need multiple RAID controllers or can one handle all 12 drives?

One compatible HBA or RAID controller can handle all 12 drives if it supports enough drive connections and the required configuration. The RM22-312 backplane uses three Mini-SAS HD SFF-8643 connectors for its 12 bays. A compatible SAS expander may also be used. Check controller, cable and drive compatibility before purchasing.
