SilverStone RM42-502 4U Rackmount Server Chassis

SilverStone RM42-502 is a 4U rackmount chassis for workstation and server builds supporting SSI-EEB and E-ATX motherboards. It offers seven expansion slots, a GPU holder, front 240mm radiator support and front audio connections for compatible workstation configurations.

• Workstation users benefit from front audio and microphone ports alongside USB Type-C, plus front 240mm radiator support for compatible liquid-cooled systems.
• Flexible storage via 2 x 5.25" bays that convert to 4 x 2.5" or 2 x 3.5" drives, plus 1 internal 2.5" bay for OS boot drives.
• Not for high-density NAS or hot-swap storage. Not for builds needing many internal 3.5" bays. RM41-H08 or RM400 are better for storage-heavy setups.

Before you buy

• Motherboard supports SSI-EEB, SSI-CEB, E-ATX, ATX, Micro-ATX, and Mini-ITX. Verify motherboard dimensions and component clearance before purchasing.
• CPU cooler clearance is 130mm with the GPU holder installed, or 148mm without it. Check cooler height and component compatibility before purchasing.
• The combined PSU and optical drive / 5.25" device length must not exceed 442mm. Supports PS2 (ATX) and Mini Redundant PSUs; 2U Redundant requires RM42-502 V2.0 or later.

What is the difference between RM42-502 and RM400?

RM42-502 supports SSI-EEB boards (the largest server format), has a GPU holder, 240mm radiator support, and front audio ports. RM400 has more internal storage (8 x 3.5") but only supports CEB/ATX boards. Choose RM42-502 for GPU compute, RM400 for storage.

Can I use the 5.25" bays for hard drives?

Yes. The two external 5.25" bays can accommodate up to four 2.5" drives or two 3.5" drives using compatible mounting accessories. With both bays configured for storage, the chassis also provides one additional internal 2.5" drive position. Confirm whether mounting adapters are included before purchasing.

Does the RM42-502 support water cooling?

Yes. The RM42-502 supports front-mounted 120mm or 240mm radiators, with two 120mm front fan positions and one 120mm fan included. Check radiator thickness, tubing clearance, and compatibility with your CPU or GPU cooling system before purchasing.
