PC Repair Service Singapore: PC Won't Turn On

June 24, 2026

Quick answer: If your PC won't turn on and pressing the power button does nothing, the most common causes are a dead power supply, a faulty motherboard, or a failed front-panel power switch. A practical way to narrow it down is to test with a known-good PSU. If the PC still doesn't power on with a working PSU, the motherboard is the likely fault. In this case, swapping in our test motherboard brought the PC back to life, confirming the original Asus board had failed. Total repair cost was $469 SGD, which included a new MSI motherboard and Montech X5M white case at the customer's request.

Why Won't My PC Turn On?

A PC that shows no response at all when you press the power button usually points to a hardware-side issue, not a software issue. Common causes include a dead power supply, a failed motherboard, or a broken front-panel power switch. Testing with a known-good PSU first helps narrow down the fault before replacing more expensive parts. If the PC still does not respond with a working PSU, the motherboard is the next component to check.

This customer brought in a PC that had completely stopped responding. Pressing the power button did nothing. The situation looked like a dead PSU at first, but testing told a different story.

Root Cause

The Asus motherboard had failed and was not responding to power signals from the PSU. We tested with Mansa's own working PSU and the PC still did not power on, which ruled out the customer's PSU as the cause. When we swapped in our test motherboard and connected the customer's PSU, the PC powered on immediately. This confirmed the original Asus board was the faulty component.

What We Checked First

  • Front-panel power switch connection to the motherboard header
  • 24-pin ATX and CPU power connectors
  • Tested with Mansa's known-good PSU (PC still did not power on)
  • Swapped to Mansa's test motherboard (PC powered on immediately)
  • Confirmed customer's original PSU was working throughout

How We Fixed It

  1. Tested with our PSU: We connected a known-good Mansa test PSU to the customer's system. The PC still did not power on. This ruled out the customer's power supply as the fault and pointed to the motherboard or a downstream component.
  2. Swapped to our test motherboard: We installed Mansa's test motherboard and reconnected all components. The PC powered on at the first attempt. This confirmed the customer's Asus board had failed.
  3. Confirmed the customer's PSU was fine: Before ordering parts, we swapped the customer's original PSU back in with our test board. The PC powered on with no issues, confirming the PSU was working throughout.
  4. Customer chose a new motherboard and case: The customer decided to replace the faulty Asus board with an MSI B760M-A Pro Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth, which required moving to a new case. The customer chose the Montech X5M in white.
  5. Rebuilt and updated drivers: We transferred all components into the Montech X5M, installed the MSI motherboard, removed the old Asus drivers, and installed the MSI chipset and device drivers cleanly.
  6. Stress tested and delivered: After the driver install, we ran a stress test to confirm system stability. The PC passed with no issues and was delivered to the customer.

Power Supply Check

We checked the power supply side first to avoid replacing the wrong part. Even after testing with a known-good PSU, the PC still would not power on.

PC Powers On With Test Board

After swapping to our test motherboard, the system finally powered on. This helped confirm the original Asus motherboard was the faulty part.

Final Stress Test

After the motherboard replacement, driver setup, and case rebuild, we ran a stress test to confirm the PC was stable before delivery.

"When a PC will not power on at all, we do not guess. We test the PSU first, then move to the motherboard if the system still does not respond. That step-by-step check helps avoid replacing the wrong part."

Final Result

The PC powers on and runs stable in a new Montech X5M white case with the MSI B760M-A Pro Wi-Fi 6E motherboard. The stress test passed with no errors. The customer's original PSU is working as normal inside the new build.

The repair also became an upgrade: the customer went from a failed Asus board in the original case to a new MSI mATX board with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 6E in a white X5M case, all tested and delivered the same service period.

Cost Breakdown

Service / Parts Cost (SGD)
Montech X5M case (White) $89
MSI B760M-A Pro Wi-Fi 6E & Bluetooth motherboard $220

Frequently Asked Questions

Why won't my PC turn on at all?
If pressing the power button does nothing, the issue is usually on the hardware side. Common causes include the power supply, motherboard, power button connection, or power cables. In this repair, we tested with a known-good PSU first, but the PC still did not power on. The system only powered on after we swapped to our test motherboard, which confirmed the original Asus board was faulty.
How did Mansa confirm the motherboard was faulty?
We first tested the PC with Mansa's known-good PSU. The PC still did not power on, so the customer's PSU was not the first confirmed fault. We then swapped to our test motherboard and the PC powered on. After that, we tested the customer's original PSU again and confirmed it was working. This pointed the fault back to the original Asus motherboard.
How much did this PC repair cost?
This repair cost $469 SGD in total. The breakdown was $89 for the Montech X5M white case, $220 for the MSI B760M-A Pro Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth motherboard, $120 for rebuild, driver install and stress test, and $40 for pickup and delivery. Repair costs vary depending on the issue, parts needed, and whether extra work like a case swap is required.
